'SymMatch' stands for symbolic match, which means that the links between the items you are going to deal with are of a symbolic sort. In this program there are 3 types of links that can be employed these are:
To play the game you first open one of the boxes by:
1. Moving the pointer over the box and 'Selecting' by pressing the LEFT (SELECT) button on the mouse.
2. pressing the correct key on the keyboard.
or
3. If using a Concept Keyboard (Overlay 20) press the area corresponding to the desired key.
At this point the box will have opened and its contents will be visible. You can then open a second box whose contents will --- hopefully --- *MATCH* the first. If you have been successful the boxes will remain open and you will score one point. If the first two choices do not *MATCH* both boxes are closed.
The game continues until all the pairs have been matched. At the end of the game the computer will adjust the difficulty of the task to your performance so the next game may have more or less items to *MATCH* than the previous one.
It is often helpful to adopt some form of 'strategy' to help in the solution of this task. For example, it may be easier to keep track of the items that you have seen if you open the boxes in a particular and consistent sequence - - such as working in alphabetic order.
