Instructions for AudRec

In this program the computer will test your memory for recognition of non-verbal sounds. When run, the program opens a window on the screen with an area labelled 'Click here to Start' - if you press the left mouse button - SELECT - with the pointer over that area, the test will begin and you will be presented with a series of short sounds to listen to. You should listen to each of these carefully as you will be asked to recognize some of these later. When the complete series has been presented the task proper will begin. The task consists of the presentation of a larger series of sound samples. Some of these may be ones that you had heard previously in the first series - the rest will be new ones. For each of the presented sounds you are asked to decide if this was one that you had heard previously or not. There are 4 response choices. These are:

Definitely heard before

Probably heard before

Probably NOT heard before

Definitely NOT heard before

You make your response by moving the pointer over the appropriate icon on the right side of the window and pressing the left button - SELECT. When your response has been registered the displayed messages will change to warn you that a new sound will be coming shortly. This task continues until all of the sounds have been presented. At the end of the sequence the large window will close and a new window will appear containing your results. Click on the 'Click here to finish' box to quit the program.
